Submitted on

New York,July11,2012(SPS)  - Secretary General of the United Nations  Ban Ki-moon, has "full confidence" in his personal envoy for Western Sahara Christopher Ross, UN associate spokesperson Farhan Haq told APS Wednesday.

In reply to a question about the news reported recently by a London-based Arab daily according to which many diplomats refused to replace the Ban Ki-moon's personal envoy for Western Sahara, Haq said, without further comment, "UN secretary general has full confidence in Christopher Ross."

While the representative of Polisario Front to the UN Ahmed Boukhari underlined that these "media allegations" were false as Ban Ki-moon continues to reaffirm his "full confidence" in Christopher Ross.

After withdrawing confidence from Ross, Morocco has opposed the appointment of the German Wolfgang Weisbrod-Weber as the special representative of UN secretary general and head of the UN Mission for Referendum in Western Sahara (MINURSO), and prevented him from taking his appointment in El Aaiun until late June.

Weisbrod-Weber succeeded to the Egyptian Hany Abdelaziz, whose term expired on 30 April.(SPS)
