Socialist International Africa Committee reaffirms support to right of Saharawi people to self-determination

Braia (Cape Verde), 03 August, 2012 (SPS) - The Socialist International Africa Committee reaffirmed the support of the Socialist International (SI) to the right of the Saharawi people to self determination, during its meeting held on 30 and 31 July in Praia, Cape Verde.

 

The committee urged Morocco and the Polisario Front to continue direct negotiations under the UN auspices, reiterating its support for the efforts of UN Secretary General and his Personal Envoy to achieve "a peaceful and lasting solution to the conflict".

 

It also expressed concern about the situation of human rights in Western Sahara. In this context, the Commitee expressed desire to send a Socialist International delegation to Western Sahara in the near future.
