Shaheed Elhafed (refugee camp), Aug 30, 2012 (SPS) - President of Robert-Kennedy Centre for Justice and Human Rights Kerry Kennedy concluded Wednesday evening her visit to the Sahrawi refugee camps, where she inquired about living conditions in these camps and assessed human rights’ situation after her stay in El Ayun (the occupied capital of Western Sahara).

Leading a delegation comprising representatoves of four international human rights organizations as well as a judge from Inter-American Court of Human Rights, Kennedy visited the headquarter of the Sahrawi Commission for self-determination based at Shahid El Hafedh Camp.

The delegation then moved to Smara refugee camp to meet with families and inquire about their living conditions, before meeting with the representatives of families of Sahrawi missing people and victims of human rights’ violations committed by the Moroccan occupying forces.

The delegation’s members also visited the headquarters of the Sahrawi National Union of Women where Kennedy said that "it is very moving to see women, who have such terrible stories on violations and atrocity committed against them or their relatives, still keeping this strength and this will to build strong institutions of the Sahrawi society."
