Ghana reiterates support to UN efforts in Western Sahara

Accra, Sept 21, 2012 (SPS) - The Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister of Ghana, Mr. Chris Kpodo, has reiterated the support of his country to efforts of the United Nations for reaching a solution to the conflict of Western Sahara on the basis of the respect to Saharawi people’s right to self-determination, in a meeting with the Saharawi Ambassador Mr. Mahjub Sidi held Thursday at Ghana’s Foreign Ministry.


“We support the efforts being made by the United Nation to reach a solution to the Saharawi cause, on the basis of the respect for the Saharawi people’s right to self-determination,” said Mr. Kpodo, quoted by a statement of the Saharawi Embassy in Accra.


“Our position on this issue is a part of our history,” added the Ghanaian diplomat.
From his part, the Saharawi Ambassador informed his interlocutor about the latest developments on the national cause, especially the repression and blockade imposed by Morocco over the occupied territories of Western Sahara as well as the ongoing course of negotiations between the Polisario Front and Morocco.


He therefore wished to the brotherly people of Ghana all the success in the forthcoming merits, including the upcoming elections. (SPS)
