Submitted on

New York, Sept 29, 2012 (SPS) - Spain supports, politically and materially, the UN Personal Envoy for Western Sahara, Christopher Ross, to achieve a solution to the conflict of Western Sahara based on the free exercise by the Saharawi people to the right of self-determination, underlined the Spanish Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Garcia-Margallo.

In a meeting with Ross on Thursday on the sidelines of the 76th session of UN General Assembly, head of Spanish diplomacy Mr. Margallo underlined that Spain confirms support to “a stable and peaceful solution for Western Sahara, which takes into consideration the principle of self-determination of the Saharawi people in accordance with the principles and resolutions of the United Nations,” quoted Friday Spanish News Agency (EFE).

“Western Sahara issue is of particular sensitivity for Spain, and for this the government of Madrid supports the efforts of Christopher Ross to move the file to achieve progress in the negotiations between Morocco and the Polisario Front,” he added. (SPS)
