Algiers, October 1, 2012 (SPS) - The French parliamentarian Hervé Féron praised Sunday in Algiers level of “maturity and organization” characterized by the Saharawi people, who fight for their freedom and independence of their country colonized by Morocco for more than three decades.
“We were impressed by the degree of organization of the Sahrawi society,” said Mr. Féron (elected socialist) during a press conference held in Algiers, returning from a visit to the Saharawi refugee camps.
“The Saharawi people have structured both key areas such as health, education of children and adult, as well as economy,” he noted.
French MP said, moreover, that he met during his stay with the Sahrawi President Mohamed Abdelaziz, with whom he inquired about the situation of the Saharawi people in the occupied territories of Western Sahara.
Mr. Feron has, on this occasion, reiterated its support for the Saharawi people to exercise their right to self-determination and independence, arguing also for the respect of human rights, which is continually denied by Morocco.
He assured he will spare no effort to accurately convey to the French people and the highest authorities of the State the situation of the Saharawi people.
The French parliamentarian has also deplored the fact that the Saharawi question is “unknown” among the French people and their elected because “public media do not talk at all,” he said.
The French deputy expressed hope that with the advent of President Holland the attitude of France regarding Western Sahara “will change.” (SPS)
