Sale (Morocco), Oct 03, 2012 (SPS) - Saharawi political prisoners incarcerated in the Moroccan prison of Salé started today a 24 - houres alarming hunger strike to protest the inhuman conditions and ill-treatment they suffer in the jail, said a press release of prisoners.
These Saharawi political prisoners, known as the "Group of Gdeim Izik" condemned all abuses and human rights violations committed by Moroccan authorities of occupation against them and the difficult conditions they face in prison since their arrest in November 2010.
They also called for an investigation into acts of physical and psychological torture they endured before and after their transfer to the prison of Salé 2 and the decision of the Moroccan authorities to bring them before a military court in Rabat at the end of this month .
The hunger strike comes as part of series of hunger strikes launched by the Saharawi political prisoners to demand their right to a fair trial before a civilian court or release them immediately and unconditionally.
23 Saharawi political prisoners including activists of human rights, were arrested in November 2010 following the events of the Saharawi protest camp of Gdeim Izik near the occupied El Aaiun, recalls it. (SPS)
