Saharawi government calls on UN to urgently intervene to protect Saharawi civilians in occupied territories

Chahid Al Hafed (refugee camps), Nov 7, 2012 (SPS) - The Saharawi government has called on  the UN Security Council and the international community to "urgently intervene to protect the defenseless Saharawi civilians in the occupied territories of Western Sahara and to  ensure their fundamental rights, including freedom of expression and assembly.

 

 

In statement culminating its meeting chaired by the President and SG Polisario Front, Mohamed Abdelaziz, the Council "strongly" condemned the campaign of repression and inhuman practices perpetrated by the Moroccan occupying forces against Sahrawi citizens, especially the defenders of human rights.

 

President of Republic on yesterday renewed urgent call for the United Nations to protect the Saharawi defenseless civilians from the repression of the Moroccan occupying forces and intervene to prevent further human rights violations in occupied Western Sahara.

 

"It's time to end the Morocco’s disregard to international humanitarian law and the international community, particularly the UN and its mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara, MINURSO," wrote in a letter the UN Secretary General, Ban Ki-moon. (SPS)
