Dakhla (occupied territories), March 25, 2013 (SPS) - UN Secretary General’s Personal Envoy Mr. Christopher Ross met yesterday at his residence with representatives of the civil society in the occupied city of Dakhla, as part of his visit to the occupied Western Sahara which ends today.
The Saharawi delegation who met with Ross included the Saharawi activist Al-Mami Amar Salem, president of Saharawi Organization against Torture and Second Deputy of the Executive Office of CODESA, Mohamed Fadel Samlali, president of Saharawi Association for Handicapped, and Sidi Ahmed Maki, member of Western Sahara Organization Against Torture.
The meeting also attended by the former Saharawi political prisoner Khaled Amaimu, who had been arrested following the recent events in occupied Dakhla, Aicha Ahmaida, mother of the Saharawi Martyr Maichan Mohamed Lehbib, Aicha Tarouzi, representative of political prisoners of recent Dakhla events, and other activists.
The meeting addressed the state of human rights, as well as the civil, political, economic, social and cultural rights of the Saharawi people, in addition to the depletion of Western Sahara natural resources by Morocco.
According to agenda of the visit, Mr. Ross expected to set foot today in the Saharawi refugee camps as part of a regional tour which will last till April 3rd, in the aim to prepare for the next phase of negotiations and a possible resumption of direct talks to achieve a mutually acceptable political solution, which will provide for the self-determination of the Saharawi people.
