Submitted on

Chahid Al Hafed (Refugee camps), March 31, 2013 (SPS) - German association “Freedom for Western Sahara” has firmly condemned the verdict pronounced by the military court of Rabat on February, against 24 Sahrawi political prisoners, known as the Gdeim Izik group.

In a letter sent to the Saharawi Minister Delegate for Europe Mr. Mohamed Sidati, the association called on the Federal Government of Germany to give the appropriate attention to the human rights abuse in this verdict, and to “join the European Parliament’s demand for an immediate and unconditional release of all the political prisoners.”

Dubbing “brutal” and “inacceptable” the Moroccan behaviuors against protesters, human rights militants and Sahrawi political prisoners, who are often subjected to "torture," the association also criticized the shameful silence of the German government and the reactions of some local media over the case of Gdeim Izik prisoners.

On February 17, the military court of Rabat pronounced heavy sentences against 24 Saharawi political prisoners from Gdeim izik group. (SPS)
