Tifariti (liberated territories), May 20, 2013 (SPS) - President of the Republic, Secretary General of the Frente POLISARIO stressed that the independent Saharawi state is a “message of love, brotherhood, cooperation, friendship and peace to the brotherly people of Morocco,” highlighting, in a speech delivered Monday in the liberated town of Tifariti marking the 40th anniversary of the outbreak of armed struggle, that the Moroccan people will not accept, to infinity, the expansion policies practiced by Rabat regime on his brotherly Saharawi people.
“We confirm, from this place, that the independent Saharawi state is a message of love, brotherhood, cooperation, friendship and peace to the brotherly people of Morocco. We are confident that this deep-rooted people cannot be satisfied, to infinity, with the expansion policies of Moroccan regime against his brotherly Saharawi people, policies which ignores the principles of freedom and democracy, and drain the energies and precious time of Morocco in unjust wars with brothers and neighbours,” said the President Mohamed Abdelaziz in his speech.
Saharawi people, he added, remains, after forty years, determined to grab his right to self-determination and independence, pointing to the national consensus in favour of freedom, self-determination and independence.
“On fortieth anniversary, here are the flags and logos of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Saguia el-Hamra and Rio de Oro (POLISARIO) roaming, more than ever, in the streets and districts of Saharawi cities. Moreover, here the Saharawis’ consensus for independence and rejection of occupation deepens, expands and spreads, day after day,” underlined the Secretary-General of the POLISARIO.
“Here is the Saharawi state, founding member of the African Union, exercising its sovereignty and evaluating its administration, and holding the sessions of its parliament above these territories, liberated with blood, sacrifices and suffering, field factor in the conflict, which enjoyed its deserved status in the priorities of the thirteenth congress of the Front,” he added, addressing tens of Saharawi citizens and foreign delegations.
The President went on saying that the Polisario Front sends a “clear message” that while it inclines to peace, the option to return to armed struggle remains at hand.
“Here, the Saharawi army is ready, with their fingers on the trigger over the liberated territories, and sends a clear message to enemies and friends that we are still inclined to peace, but the armed struggle was and will remain a way legalized by the United Nations for the Sahrawi people. It will remain a valid legitimate option, except if the international community assumes its responsibility in enabling this people to exercise his inalienable right to self-determination and independence, through a free, fair and impartial referendum,” he indicated.
“On this day forty years ago, the armed struggle in Western Sahara was started with just seventeen men, has no weapon but faith in the fairness of the cause, determination and willingness to sacrifice,” he said.
“The path of armed struggle has seen dangerous developments that have made Saharawi army, which was founded in that historic day, and despite the limited number and the lack materials and experience, getting into an open confrontation with three armies since late 1975, following the signing of Tripartite Madrid Agreement between Spain, Morocco and the then ruling regime in Mauritania,” indicated President of the Republic.
The festivities commemorating the 40th anniversary of the outbreak of armed struggle in Western Sahara kicked off this morning, Monday, in the liberated town of Tifariti, in the presence of national and foreign delegations. (SPS)
