El Aaiun (occupied territories), June 16, 2013 (SPS) - Despite Moroccan security siege, the 3rd stage of the International Conference of solidarity with the struggle of Saharawi woman kicked off Saturday in the occupied city of El Aaiun, capital of Western Sahara, under the title “the resistance of Saharawi women in the occupied territories”, Ms. Fatma Mehdi, Secretary General of the National Union of Saharawi Woman, told SPS.

The conference is organized by a number of Saharawi women’s groups in the occupied territories.

It is attended by European women, particularly from France and Spain, representing parliaments and associations of friendship and solidarity with the Saharawi people, as well as the participation of about 150 Saharawi activists.

This conference, said Ms. Fatma Mehdi, aims at listening to the Saharawi woman’s concerns as to break the siege imposed on them.

According to today’s agenda, the participants will deliver a memorandum to the MINURSO on the situation of human rights in occupied Western Sahara.

The first day was marked by meetings between Saharawi groups and representatives of the international network of solidarity with the Saharawi people, who are present at the conference.

This conference comes in the context of the popularization of the results of the conference that held in the Saharawi refugee camps last April, as well as to break the siege imposed on the Territory.

To recall, the conference is held inside a tent, settled on the roof of one of the houses in the occupied city of El Aaiun.

This conference is the third following those organized in the Saharawi Refugee Camps and Algiers last April. (SPS)
