Mozambique, Sept 22, 2013 (SPS) - Saharawi Republic (SADR) has taken part at a meeting of the regional parliament of South African states on the promotion, adoption and adjustment of African Union legislations, held in Maputo on September 17-20.
Saharawi Republic was represented at this meeting by Ms. Sueilma Beiruk, Vice-President of the Pan-African Parliament (PAP).
This meeting aims at promoting and empowering parliamentarians’ capacities, as to raise their awareness for the need to adopt and adjust the laws that constitute the basis of African governance, including the African Charter on Democracy, Elections and Governance, African Union Convention on Preventing and Combating Corruption and the African Charter on Values and Principles of Public Service and Administration.
The meeting was attended by PAP bureau, deputies and committees, African ministers of justice, foreign affairs and public service, parliamentarians of the Southern African Development Community (SADC), in addition to the members of the government, diplomatic corps, press, partners and civil society of Mozambique.
During the first day, the presence heard presentations on the governance, democracy, elections, the values and principles of public service and administration in Africa, in addition to the role of PAP as well as the regional and local parliaments in adopting and adjusting the laws and charters of the African Union related to this region of the continent.
In the second day, they discussed African Union Convention on Preventing and Combating Corruption, the issue of intra-African trade, and the ways to adopt and activate the laws and the role of civil society on this issue.
To recall, Ms. Sueilma Beiruk held several meetings such as the President of the Parliament and some civil society organizations of Mozambique. (SPS)
