Boujdour (Occupied Territories), November 3, 2013 (SPS) - The Moroccan police in official and civilian uniforms repressed ‘forcefully’ Friday a peaceful demonstration organised by Sahrawi citizens in front of the occupied city of Boujdour prefecture, said the Ministry of the Occupied Territories and Communities Abroad.
A group of Sahrawi citizens, composed of unemployed and associative activists, chose to demonstrate peacefully, in protest against a festival organized by the Moroccan authorities in the city despite the ‘deterioration of the social and economic situation of the Sahrawi families that complain of deprivation and exclusion and most of its members suffer of unemployment and poverty’, said the same source.
The Moroccan authorities prevented the Sahrawi citizens from organising a peaceful demonstration in front of the prefecture, which led the Sahrawi demonstrators to disperse in groups chanted human rights and trade unions slogans, resulted in violent intervention of police and auxiliary forces against them, leaving many injured, the soiurce added.
