Future of Maghreb cannot be shaped by expansion strategy, says Mr. Bukhari

New York, Nov 17, 2013 (SPS) - "The future of the Maghreb region cannot be shaped by spoils resulting from a land expansion strategy, as well as violating international law and human rights," said Mr. Bukhari Ahmed, Polisario Front’s Representative to the United Nations (UN).

"Moroccan regime has begun to feel a new American vision, based on the fact that there is nothing can be taken seriously in Maghreb and Sahel regions, without the consent and cooperation of Algeria, whom we share the same vision for a safe, democratic and prosperous Maghreb and Sahel," indicated Mr. Bukhari, in an interview with the Algerian magazine of El-Mihwar.

"The Polisario Front firmly believes that the referendum on self-determination is the honourable and appropriate way for the parties and the UN," he said, adding that UN has all the means, including the list of voters and a very detailed roadmap enshrined in the Houston’s agreements, to organize the referendum, which was ratified by the Security Council.

The Saharawi diplomat, on other hand, noted that the Saharawi people "will never forget those who participate in the illegal exploitation of their natural resources," adding "they know that what they are doing is a shame and illegal trade."

He, in this context, called on world governments and comapnies to refrain from entering into negotiations with the occupying power over the Saharawi natural resources.

"Polisario Front and Saharawis Government (SADR) are committed, in cooperation with our friends, to address security threats targetting our style of life, as well as the stability and happiness of our peoples and our countries, knowing that local security has, since long time, suffered from repeated attempts from Morocco to change borders by force," Saharawi representative told the Algerian magazine.

"We, in this region, were all victims of this threat which costed us a lot of human and material losses. It is high time for Morocco to learn how to live in peace with all its neighbours," he added. (SPS)
