Iran nuclear programme: Agreement in Geneva

Geneva (Switzerland), November 25, 2013 (SPS) - Major powers and Iran has reached an agreement on that country’s controversial nuclear programme on the night of Saturday to Sunday in Geneva, European Union’s foriegn policy chief, Catherine Ashton, has said.

 

"We have reached an agreement," Michael Mann said on Twitter without elaborating. Preparations are under way at the United Nations in Geneva to officially announce the agreement, said French news agency AFP.

 

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif also announced the agreement on Twitter: "We have reached an agreement."

 

The group 5+1, namely the United States, Russia, China, France, Great Britain and Germany had been negotiating since Wednesday in Geneva with Iran in a bid for a six-month temporary agreement with guarantees on the peaceful nature of Iran’s nuclear programme, in exchange for "limited" sanctions relief.
