Angola wants Western Sahara in African Union priorities

Addis Ababa, Jan 31, 2014 (SPS) - “The issue on West Sahara and the right of people to have self determination must constitute a priority on the agenda of the African union,” stated Thursday the Vice President of the Republic of Angola, Mr. Manuel Domingos Vicente, quoted by Angolan Press Agency.


Addressing the 22nd Summit of Heads of State and Government of the African Union, underway in Addis Ababa, Mr. Vicente hoped that the council for peace and security of the African Union reports on the real steps aiming to implement the compromises assumed freely by the two parties to the conflict to the Western Sahara conflict.


In 1975, recalled the vice-president of Angola, Spain left the former colony, Mauritania occupied one third of its territory and Morocco took the remaining part of the territory alleging historic rights. (SPS)
