Reggiolo mayor urges Italian government to recognize SADR

Emilia Romagna (Italy), Feb 11, 2014 (SPS) - Mayor of Reggiolo, in the province of Emilia-Romagna (Italy) Ms. Barbara Bernardelli has called on the Italian government to recognize the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR) and put an end to the injustice the Sahrawi people are subject to under Moroccan occupation.


Speaking Saturday on the sideline of the signing of a twinning agreement between the Reggiolo Municipal Council and the Sahrawi sub-prefecture of Tifariti, which is part of the liberated territories, the Italian official called for respect of human rights in the occupied territories of Western Sahara.


Ms. Bernardelli expressed her willingness to reinforce cooperation in favour of democracy, justice and freedom, stressing the need to respect the Saharawi people’s peaceful struggle for self-determination.


She also demanded an end to the mistreatment of the Saharawi people in the occupied territories of Western Sahara. (SPS)
