Bouteflika to Saharawi President: Algeria remains fully true to decolonization of Western Sahara

Algiers, Feb 25, 2014 (SPS) - The President of Algeria H.E. Mr. Abdelaziz Bouteflika has emphasized that his country (Algeria) "will remain true and attached to the implementation of UN doctrine and decolonization of Western Sahara," urging the international community to assume its responsibility towards the situation experienced by the Saharawi people.


In a letter addressed to the President of the Republic and Secretary General of the Polisario Front Mr. Mohamed Abdelaziz on the occasion of the 38th anniversary of SADR proclamation, Algerian President Bouteflika asked the international community to speedily resolve the question of Western Sahara through self-determination within UN framework.


President Bouteflika said that his country will continue to strenuously act so that the right of the Saharawi people to self-determination been applied.


"I am totally certain that the Saharawi people will find their way to freedom in line with international legitimacy," writes Mr. Bouteflika, in his letter to the Saharawi President.


He went on saying that 27th February 1976 was a historic milestone in the history of the Saharawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR), and will remain a source of inspiration and pride for Saharawi people’s generations, and all peoples yearning for freedom and emancipation.


SADR was proclaimed on 27th February 1976, immediately following the withdrawal of Spanish colonialism. (SPS)
