PM hails large participation of foreigners in Sahara Marathon

Smara (refugee camp), Feb 26, 2014 (SPS) - The Sahrawi Prime Minister Mr. Abdelkader Taleb Omar said to be pleased with the success of the 14th Sahara Marathon, hailing the large participation of foreigner, which shows the solidarity of the international community with the Sahrawi people.


"The marathon was a success with the large participation of foreign athletes, who were absent last year," Saharawi PM told Algerian Press Service (APS) at the closing ceremony of Sahara Marathon on Monday.


He underlined that the success of this event "shows that the security prevails in the Sahrawi refugee camps and confirms the failure of Morocco’s policy, in its attempt to present the region as unstable and unsafe for foreigners."


The Sahrawi Prime minister also hailed the large participation of foreign athletes and activists for the Sahrawi cause and for their solidarity with the Sahrawi people as well as their role in raising the awareness of international community of the legitimacy of their struggle for independence.


The 14th edition of Sahara Marathon was held Monday as part of the festivities marking the 38th anniversary of the proclamation of the Sahrawi Republic (SADR) with the participation of over 450 athletes, including 300 foreigners.


This year’s edition was held under the theme "Running for the Human Rights in the Western Sahara." (SPS)
