Boujdour (refugee camps), Feb 27, 2014 (SPS) - The chairman of Saharawi Red Crescent Mr. Yahia Bouhabini called Thursday in Boujdour on the international community to take urgent action in the face of the “very critical” humanitarian situation of Saharawi refugees.

“The situation of refugees is very critical because of a significant decline in donations from countries, especially Spain, hit by an economic crisis that has had an impact on their populations,” Mr. Bouhabini told reporters on the sidelines of the festivities celebrating the 38th anniversary of the declaration of the Saharawi Republic (SADR).

He deplored that such a situation has been “ignored by the international community, while many people in the camps suffer from diseases and nutritional deficiency, mainly women and children.”

“USD100 million are necessary for covering the basic humanitarian needs every year,” Bouhabini said, stressing the need for urgent actions from the international community to address the situation. (SPS)
