Tokyo, July 17, 2014 (SPS) - Four Japanese senators and members of parliament have voiced their support to the right of the Saharawi people to self-determination and independence, regretting for the fact that Western Sahara problem is still left unsolved for more than 39 years.
In four separate letters sent to the Saharawi people, obtained Thursday by SPS, the Japanese senators and parliamentarians called on the government of their country to work in favour of freeing the last colony in Africa, which is Western Sahara.
They expressed solidarity with the people of Western Sahara and all world people who fight for independence, peace, democracy and the social progress, urging Japanese parliamentarians to act “efficiently and concretely” to solve the long-standing conflict of Western Sahara.
The letters hoped that Japan would join international solidarity movement with the people of Western Sahara.
They, therefore, recalled that in May 2013, five nonpartisan parliamentarians issued statement on Western Sahara, in which they expressed support to the self-determination of the Western Sahara people and condemned Morocco’s violations against the the Saharawis in occupied Western Sahara.
These four letters were sent by: Satsuki Eda, member of the Senate, Akira Kasai, member of the Parliament from the Communist Party, and Mito Kakizawa, member of the Parliament. (SPS)
