Copenhagen (Denmark) Oct 23, 2014 (SPS) - POLISARIO Representative in Denmark, Mr. Abba Malainin, on Thursday held talks with Mr. Joakim Lundström, Political Advisor and Team leader Policy at Amnesty International - Denmark branch.
The meeting was an opportunity to the Saharawi Diplomat to unveil Morocco’s ongoing brutal and systematic violations against the Saharawi’s political, social and economical rights in the occupied territories of Western Sahara.
Mr. Abba Malainin highlighted to his interlocutor that the worst rights violation committed by Morocco since its illegal occupation to Western Sahara has been the constant denial of the Saharawi people to exercise freely their right to Self-determination.
“More than 70 Saharawi human rights activists are imprisoned now in different prisons in Morocco and since Morocco occupation there are more than 650 Saharawi cases of disappearances,” said Abba Malainin
“In occupied Western Sahara there is no freedom of expression, no freedom of assembly, Morocco banns the establishment of Saharawi rights organisations, Saharawi human rights activists suffer constant repression, arbitrary detentions, usually forced sign false confessions, unfair trials, torture, abduction, imprisonments, sometimes the activists brought before military courts and usually also the activists are punished in prison for their political opinions by banning them from receiving any medical assistant when they extremely need it, as the case of Hassana Elwali who died recently on Sept 27th, ” he added.
Amnesty International has launched since last May two years “Stop Torture” Campaign that focuses among others on Morocco, which is considered from the World’s worst countries that torture is common practice.
It is worth mentioning that Amnesty International – Denmark branch has published in one of its magazine’s latest editions of this year an article about Torture methods committed by Morocco in occupied Western Sahara. (SPS)
