Austrian Socialist Party continues advocating for recognition of SADR

Vienna, Dec 4, 2014 (SPS) - Austrian Socialist Party has approved a motion affirming the party’s commitment to continue working so that Austria recognizes the Saharawi Republic (SADR), said Polisario Front representation to Vienna.


Approved at the end of 43th congress of the Socialist Party of Austria, the motion urged Austrian government to establish diplomatic relations with SADR.


The Party supports Polisario Front’s calling on UN to conduct a speedy referendum on self-determination for the Saharawi people in compliance with resolutions of the United Nations and African Union, stated the motion.


It asked Morocco to abide by the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, by respecting the right of Saharawis to assembly, association, protest, free movement and their freedom of expression.


The Party, in this respect, called for the extension of prerogatives of the UN Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara (MINURSO) to include human rights monitoring, demanding the immediate release of all Saharawi political prisoners.


It, moreover, deplored illegal exploitation of Western Sahara natural resources, urging foreign companies, particularly those of Europe, to cease its activities in the territory.


The party, in the end, pledged to plead for the aforementioned demands within international organizations, including of which Socialist International and Progressive Alliance. (SPS)
