Gernika (Spain), April 2, 2015 (SPS) - President of the Republic, Secretary General of the Frente Polisario, Mr. Mohamed Abdelaziz, will receive Gernika Award for Peace and Reconciliation, for his attachment to consolidating peace in Western Sahara and defending human rights of the Saharawi people.
The decision was taken Tuesday by a jury of political representatives of Gernika-Lumo Municipality.
The second prize will be given to the physician and doctor of social psychology, Carlos Martín Beristain, for his work over the past thirty years in the support and assistance to victims of violent conflicts, in various parts of the world such as Guatemala, Colombia , Western Sahara, Bosnia, Mexico, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Ecuador, among others.
These awards are granted on April 26 each year, as part of the commemorations marking the aerial bombing of the city by Nazi army, allied with the Spanish military coup. (SPS)
