Smara (refugee camps), April 7, 2015 (SPS) - Saharawi women called Monday, in Smara, the UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon to “impose the international law, speed up the decolonization process in Western Sahara and extend the mandate of the United Nations Mission for Referendum in Western Sahara (MINURSO) to include the protection of human rights.”
At the end of its 7th congress, the National Union of Sahrawi Women (UNMS) called on the Security Council to “work for the establishment of peace and stability for the Sahrawi people, victims of a criminal war led by the Moroccan occupying forces.”
The union called on the African Union (AU) “to maintain its noble positions in relation to this just cause and find new ways for common action with the Security Council to bring Morocco to comply with the international law and reach a solution that enables the Sahrawi people to exercise their right to self-determination, through a just and fair referendum.”
In a message addressed to Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika, the participants at this congress expressed their “full recognition and great respect” for President Bouteflika for his efforts to support the just cause of Western Sahara. (SPS)
