Aid to Sahrawi refugees: WFP’s representative refutes Moroccan allegations

Submitted on

Algiers, 10 August 2015 (SPS) - The Representative of the World Food Programme (WFP) in Algeria Romain Sirois refuted Sunday, in Algiers, the Moroccan allegations reporting alleged misappropriation of humanitarian aid destined to Sahrawi refugees.

“We have received a copy of the report prepared by the European Anti-Fraud Office reporting alleged misappropriation of humanitarian aid destined to Sahrawi refugees. For WFP, none of these allegations has been proven,” Sirois told APS on the sidelines of a meeting organized by the Algerian Red Crescent on the humanitarian situation of the Sahrawi refugees.

The same official underlined, on this occasion, that this report which refers to “alleged events recorded in 2003, was written in 2007 and it wasn’t published until 2015.”

In this regard, while pointing out that “no concrete evidence of misappropriation has been established by the World Food Programme,” Sirois insisted on the fact that the report in question referred to supplies that WFP didn’t receive.” (SPS)
