Madrid, Nov 14, 2015 (SPS) "Spain must assume its responsibilities" towards the Sahrawi people and "put pressure on Morocco" to put an end to its colonization of Western Sahara, said Saturday in Madrid, a Spanish parliamentary.

Speaking on the sidelines of the 40th Conference of support and solidarity with the Saharawi people (EUCOCO) the Spanish Parliamentary of Navara region, Marisa De Simon, said that "Spain is a responsible for the Moroccan invasion of Saharawi territories, so it must put pressure on Morocco to put an end to this occupation."

She said that "not only Spain but also all European countries should exert pressure on Morocco", stating that the Organization of a referendum on self-determination for the Sahrawi people is "the only solution" for the conflict.

"Forty years after the occupation, and the situation in the occupied territories is getting worse and worse", lamented Ms De Simon.

She also denounced "the abuses and torture carried out by Morocco in the Sahrawi occupied territories ", calling the international community to intervene to force the Moroccan occupier to comply with international resolutions in this regard.

Since 1966, on the list of non-self-governing territories, and therefore eligible for the application of resolution 1514 of the General Assembly of the United Nations on the declaration on the granting of independence to the colonial countries and peoples, Western Sahara is the last colony in Africa, occupied since 1975 by the Morocco.
