Swedish Social Democratic Party reaffirms Sahrawi people’s right to self-determination

Stockholm, January 07, 2016 (SPS) -  The Swedish Social Democratic Party reaffirmed the right of the Sahrawi people to self-determination, in a letter recently sent to the Polisario Front, congratulating it for the smooth running of its 14th congress.

“The Swedish Social Democratic Party supports the Sahrawi people’s right to live in a democratic, free and independent State. We firmly condemn any occupation of the Sahrawi territory,” said the party in a letter, extracts of which were published by the Sahrawi news agency SPS.

The Swedish party also expressed its satisfaction with the “historic relations” with the Polisario Front and renewed “its commitment to strengthening them so that the Sahrawi people can regain their rights.”

This position was reiterated at the moment where the Swedish Parliament is preparing to discuss the issue related to the recognition of Western Sahara and the granting of a diplomatic status to its representation in Stockholm, according to the media.

It also occurs as the Swedish government started examining the Swedish policy relating to Western Sahara, of which the report will be presented in 2016. (SPS)
