"Western Sahara and Moroccan occupation" theme of conference at University of La Laguna, Canary Islands

Tenerife (Canary Islands), February 21, 2016 (SPS) A conference on the theme: "Western Sahara and Moroccan occupation" was held in the University of La Laguna, Canary Islands, Spanish, in the presence of several intellectuals, Spanish teachers and Saharawi community in Spain.

 

Organized on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the proclamation of the Saharawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR), the conference focused on the suffering of the people of Western Sahara and its right to self-determination and independence guaranteed by all international covenants and conventions.

 

Speakers affirmed that allowing the Saharawi people to exercise their right to self-determination is the only guarantee for peace and stability in the region.

 

They expressed their deep concern about the failure of the international community to find a solution to the Saharawi cause, calling in the same context to organize a self-determination referendum in Western Sahara in the shortest possible time. (SPS)
