Shaheed El-Hafed, October 21, 2024 (SPS) - The German Left Party has called for Germany to respect the right of the Sahrawis to self-determination, a right that has been documented in more than 100 resolutions issued by the United Nations, emphasizing the importance of Germany's commitment to supporting a self-determination referendum as mandated by those resolutions.
In a statement, the party affirmed its commitment to the independence of Western Sahara, the last colony in Africa, as well as to the rights and interests of the Sahrawis living there or those who are forcibly displaced, rejecting the so-called "autonomy plan" similar to what Spain and France have done. It demands that Germany defend the legitimate right of the Sahrawis to self-determination in international forums.
The Left Party also urged all German companies operating illegally and in blatant violation of international law in Western Sahara to immediately cease their activities and leave the country, emphasizing that any economic agreement for any German company operating in Western Sahara can only be made with the approval of the Polisario Front.
The German Left Party expressed its strong support for the Polisario Front and its struggle as the legitimate representative of the Sahrawi people.
