Spanish Intersindical Confederation condemns illegal French position and affirms its solidarity with Sahrawi people

Madrid, August 06, 2024 (SPS) - The Spanish Intersindical Confederation condemned, in a statement, the illegal position of the French government regarding Western Sahara, and affirmed its full support and solidarity with the Sahrawi people in the face of this new betrayal of their right to independence.

"We learned this week of a new shift in European policy through President Macron's message in which he unjustly and unfairly recognized the alleged plan that contradicts the principles of international law and UN resolutions, and claims to be the way out of the conflict in Western Sahara”, said the Confederation in its statement.

The Spanish Intersindical Confederation stressed that "the illegal and shameful French position will deprive the Sahrawi people of their right to self-determination and independence, considering their land occupied, and stressed that this new turn in the policy of the European Union member states regarding Western Sahara shows once again how the capitalist countries stand with the occupying forces for their own interests and turn a blind eye to human rights violations against Sahrawi civilians who suffer from conditions of occupation, asylum and diaspora."

The statement highlighted that "the Confederation, as an international union, strongly condemns any decision that does not support the right of the Sahrawi people to self-determination and it will continue to participate and support any mobilization in favor of this people who have been struggling for decades for their legitimate rights.

The Confederation stressed in its statement, once again, that the various United Nations resolutions are being ignored, as well as the various requests made in the European Union to stop the plundering of Sahrawi natural resources.
