Addis Ababa (Ethiopia), August 06, 2024 (SPS) - The Sahrawi Republic participates in the Fifth Ordinary Session of the Specialised Technical Committee on Health, Nutrition, Population and Drug Control (STC-HPNDC-5), hosted by the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa between 5 and 9 August, 2024.

The Fifth Ordinary Session of Specialised Technical Committee on Health, Nutrition, Population and Drug Control (STC-HPNDC-5) is organized under the theme, “Cultivating Wellness in Africa: Holistic Approaches to Health, Nutrition, Population, Drug Control, Crime Prevention, and Education”.

The meeting reviews progress made in the implementation of the AU and STC Decisions, provides policy guidance, and adopts reports, frameworks, and guidelines as well as recommendations that will be presented for consideration by the Executive Council of AU. It will also identify and discuss key priority areas on health, nutrition, population, drug control and crime prevention that will improve the health and socio-economic well-being of Africa’s population. The STC-HNPDC-5 will also consider key documents in the Health, Nutrition, Population and Drug Control and Crime Prevention sectors.

The STC-HNPDC-5 brings together Ministers in charge of Health, Nutrition Population and Drug Control, and Experts responsible for the sectors concerned, AU Organs such as the AU Development Agency – New Partnerships for Africa’s Development (AUDA-NEPAD) and Africa CDC, and the Regional Economic Communities. Pan-African and International Organizations working in the relevant areas of concern are invited to the opening and closing sessions.

The Sahrawi Republic is represented during the fifth session by the Director of Information and Awareness at the Ministry of Public Health, Mr. Hayai Ahmed Baba Hayai, and the First Secretary of the Embassy of the Sahrawi Republic in Addis Ababa and the Permanent Representation to the African Union, Mr. Aman Sidi Abdallah.

During the first day of the fifth regular session, the Director of Information and Awareness at the Ministry of Public Health gave a detailed presentation on the experience of the Ministry of Public Health in the field of communication and health awareness to prevent diseases. He also presented several proposals that would contribute to unifying cooperation efforts between the African Union countries, especially in the field of exchanging health information and knowledge.
