“Bir Lehlou, 4 February 2024

H.E. Dr Nangolo Mbumba

President of the Republic of Namibia,

Windhoek

Excellency and Dear Brother,

It was with overwhelming sadness and deep sorrow that we learnt about the passing of Dr Hage G. Geingob, former President of the Republic of Namibia, who died early on Sunday at the age of 82.

On behalf of the Government and the people of the Sahrawi Republic, I would like to convey to you, to the brotherly people of the Republic of Namibia and to the entire family of President Geingob our most heartfelt condolences and deepest sympathies at this painful time.

A long-serving member of SWAPO, an anti-apartheid activist and a towering veteran of Namibia’s independence struggle, President Geingob was a great statesman, a visionary and a freedom fighter par excellence who served his country and people, in all the positions that he assumed, with exemplary devotion and diligence.

He played a central role in building a new Namibia in which the chains of the injustices of the past would be broken, and in making the country one of the most stable and prosperous democracies on the continent.

At the international and continental level, President Geingob worked wholeheartedly to promote and defend African interests and issues. He will be remembered as a staunch supporter of the liberation struggle of the Sahrawi people, and as a great African leader who strongly believed that Africa would not be truly free until the Sahrawi Republic was fully free.

President Geingob will also be remembered with admiration and profound respect for his principled positions, great moral qualities, and dedication.

Please accept, Excellency and Dear Brother, the assurances of my highest consideration.

Brahim Ghali

President of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic

Secretary-General of the Frente POLISARIO”
