Algeria, UK reaffirm their commitment to just and lasting political solution in Western Sahara

 

London, 18 November 2023 (SPS) - Algeria and the United Kingdom have reaffirmed their commitment to achieving a just, lasting and mutually acceptable political solution, under the UN settlement which provides for the Sahrawi people's right to self-determination, according to the joint communiqué issued at the end of the 2nd session of the strategic dialogue between the two countries.

During this session, the two parties reiterated their "commitment to achieving a just, lasting and mutually acceptable political solution, on the basis of the UN settlement which provides for the right of self-determination of the Saharawi people, in accordance with the principles and objectives of the United Nations Charter."

They also reaffirmed their "full support for the efforts of the UN Secretary-General's Personal Envoy, Staffan de Mistura, and for MINURSO."

The Minister for Foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad, Ahmed Attaf, held constructive talks with the British Minister of State for the Middle East, North Africa, South Asia and the United Nations, Lord Tariq Ahmad of Wimbledon, "aimed at strengthening current and future bilateral cooperation."

The two ministers discussed regional and multilateral issues of common interest, exchanging their assessments of the situation in the MENA region and the Sahel, according to the source.
