Shaheed El Hafed, 27 Nov 2016 (SPS) The Saharawi National Committee of Human Rights (CONASADH) condemned all forms of repression and torture committed against Sahrawi women in the occupied territories of Western Sahara by the Moroccan repressive forces of occupation.
"We condemn all forms of physical and verbal repression and torture committed by the Moroccan occupation authorities against the Saharawi women who participates in peaceful protests to demand the right of the Saharawi people to self-determination and independence and against illegal plundering of the natural resources of their country," declared the Committee in a statement on the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.
CONASADH also denounced the refusal of the Moroccan authorities to initiate independent investigations into complaints by the families of Sahrawi victims murdered and tortured verbally and physically by Moroccan officials.
It "strongly condemned the repression of a peaceful demonstration organized by the Saharawi women in the occupied city of Smara, held on International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, left several wounded among the participants.
The Committee expressed its solidarity with the Saharawi women and its support for their legitimate demands for self-determination and independence.
CONASADH called on all international bodies and organizations of the United Nations to exert pressure on the Moroccan government in order to respect its international commitments, in particular in the field of human rights, and to work for the establishement of an independent UN mechanism to monitor and report on human rights situation in Western Sahara.
