Dunedin (New Zealand) 12 July 2022 (SPS)- Citizens of Dunedin gathered on Monday in the city harbour to unwelcome and farewell the “Sea Breeze”, a ship carrying hundreds tons of “blood phosphate” stolen from Western Sahara, SPS correspondent reported from the ground.
The demonstrators wanted to condemn the Moroccan illegal occupation of Western Sahara and the theft of its natural resources, as well as to tell New Zealand companies that by purchasing the stolen blood phosphate they indict themselves as War Criminals.
They also wanted to underline that by continuing to import these stolen goods even after Morocco violated the 30 year ceasefire last November 2020, they are actively funding the Moroccan regime violent suppression of the Sahrawi people.
On another hand, New Zealand citizens called on Ravensdown, which imported the stolen Phosphate, to stop this illegal purchase, and consequently to stop funding an ongoing war and allow the Sahrawi people to have an independent UN referendum liberating them from Moroccan illegal occupation.
The spokesperson of the protesters said “We are here to acknowledge the pain of the Saharawis, who have been under brutal military occupation for over 45 years and our message to Ravensdown that they are war criminals in this situation.”
“We know that the company is amongst the last companies in the world that are still funding this illegal and brutal war,” he said.
He also added New Zealand stands strong in its convictions and values to not be willing participant in the active genocide against the Sahrawi nation. (SPS)
