Shaheed El Hafed, July 31, 2016 (SPS) Polisario Front and Saharawi government strongly denounced the intransigence, policy of headlong rush that characterized the speech of the King of Morocco, holding Morocco responsible for the continuing obstacles to the efforts of the international community to find a just and lasting solution to the conflict in Western Sahara, indicated a statement of the Ministry of information.
In reaction to the speech of King Mohammed VI, the Saharawi Government and the Polisario Front called on the United Nations to assume their full responsibilities through the exercise of pressure and necessary sanctions on the Moroccan occupation state to comply with international principles of international legality and avoid risk of tension and escalation in the region.
They demanded the urgent intervention of the UN Security Council to address Morocco's actions and implement its latest resolution on the return of the civilian component of MINURSO so that it can fully exercise its duties, and fix a timetable for the organization of the self-determination referendum for the Saharawi people.
They also called on African Union to take positions and appropriate measures to respond to this childish and dangerous attack against the African organization in violation of its constitution and in infringement of its unity and cohesion.
The statement reiterated the willingness of the Polisario Front to cooperate with the efforts of the UN Secretary-General and his Personal Envoy to expedite the decolonization of Western Sahara, the last colony in Africa, as well as its commitment to defend the inalienable right of the Sahrawi people to self-determination and independence, like all the colonized peoples and countries.
"The Kingdom of Morocco has entered with its colonial expansionist approach in a confrontation with the African Union, the European Union and the United Nations," they underlined.
Concerning the membership of Morocco in the African union, the Sahrawi government recalled the communiqué published by the UA, which denied the discussion of this membership during the 27th summit held in Kigali.
The statement stressed that the speech of king of Morocco asserts the scale of corruption, and grave economic and social crises the Kingdom of Morocco is suffering, which makes this speech full of sophism and an attempt to divert the Moroccan public opinion from the reality on the ground and its hasty positions as regards the return of MINURSO which it claimed "irreversible".
