Serbia reiterates its support for UN-led process in Western Sahara

Submitted on

Belgrade, 1 July 2023 (SPS) - Serbia has reiterated its support for the UN-led process aimed at achieving a "just and lasting" solution to the conflict in Western Sahara, according to a statement of its Foreign Ministry on Thursday.
On the occasion of an audience granted to the Algerian ambassador to Belgrade, Fatah Mahraz, Serbian First Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic confirmed Serbia's position on the need for a "peaceful settlement" of all disputes, including the Western Sahara issue.
In this context, Mr. Dacic "reiterated Serbia's support for the efforts of the UN-led process to resolve this issue (Western Sahara) in accordance with international law and the relevant resolutions of the UN General Assembly and Security Council, with the aim of achieving a just and lasting solution", according to the same source.
This clarification by Serbia's head of diplomacy signals his country's return to international legality on the Sahrawi issue, and deals a blow to the fabrications of the Makhzen and its sinister "autonomy plan".
It supports international law and the relevant resolutions of the UN General Assembly and Security Council, which treat Western Sahara as a decolonization issue.
