Caracas, 21 March 2023 (SPS) - President of the Republic, Secretary General of the Polisario Front, Brahim Ghali met, Tuesday in Caracas, as part of his State visit to the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, with the President of the Parliamentary Friendship Group "Venezuela-Africa", Jesus Suarez Chourio and the various components of the country's solidarity network with the struggle of the Saharawi people.
President Ghali reaffirmed, on this occasion, the importance of consolidating relations between Venezuela and the African continent "in that they share a common past of struggle and struggle for freedom and independence and there are promising prospects for developing cooperation and solidarity in various fields", highlighting the commitment of the Saharawi Republic to work in this direction, based on its position as a founding member of the African Union.
For his part, Chourio reiterated Venezuela's principled position on all African issues, at the top of which is the Saharawi cause, renewing the commitment of his parliamentary group to strengthen relations of friendship and cooperation with African peoples and countries.
In this context, the Saharawi Embassy in Venezuela and the Venezuelan Solidarity Foundation "Free Sahara", organized a meeting of President Ghali with the different components of the country's solidarity network with the struggle of the Sahrawi people.
The meeting, which took place in the presence of the Venezuelan Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, in charge of Africa, was an opportunity to review the experience of the Solidarity Movement through the many initiatives and visits made by its members to the liberated Saharawi territories and refugee camps.
The Participants also praised the resilience, resistance and determination of the Saharawi people to fight for freedom and independence despite circumstances and difficulties.
The participants reiterated their position of principle and solidarity with the struggle of the Sahrawi people until the recovery of its sovereignty over its entire national territory, stressing the imperative to develop and expand the scope of solidarity action in Venezuela and in Latin America.
The President of the Republic, Secretary-General of the Polisario Front, Mr. Brahim Ghali, began Sunday a state visit to the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, at the invitation of its President, Mr. Nicolás Maduro.
The President of the Republic is accompanied by an important delegation comprising members of the National Secretariat of the Polisario Front, Mohamed Sidati and Fatima al-Mahdi, respectively Minister of Foreign Affairs and Minister of Cooperation, as well as the Adviser to the Presidency of the Republic, Abdati Breirika, the Ambassador in charge of Latin America and the Caribbean, Mohamed Zroug and ambassador to Venezuela, Mohamed Salem Rgueibi.
Venezuela recognized the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR) as an independent state in August 1980 and in December 1982 the two countries established diplomatic relations, it should be recalled.
