Some 300 participants from 23 countries attend 23rd edition of "Western Sahara Marathon"

Madrid, 11 February 2023 (SPS) - The 23rd edition of the "Western Sahara Marathon" will take place on 28 February in the Sahrawi refugee camps with the participation of some 300 runners from 23 countries, as part of the campaign of solidarity with the Sahrawi people and its just cause for self-determination.
The event, which is the most important sporting event held in the Sahrawi refugee camps, was presented on Friday in the Spanish capital, Madrid, as it has a global resonance due to its solidarity character.
The media quoted the organizers of this sporting event as saying that they are preparing for the event and that the list of registered participants has reached 300 participants from 23 countries.
In this context, the coordinator of the 23rd edition, Brahim Sheikh Breih, stated that this event aims to "sensitize the Sahrawi issue at the global level, and it is a reliable reflection of the Sahrawi issue, and a race that symbolizes resistance until we reach our goal of the freedom of Western Sahara."
For his part, the representative of the Polisario Front in Spain, Abdullah Arabi, stressed that international solidarity should be strengthened by ensuring the continuity of events such as the Western Sahara Marathon.
Competitors will choose between four distances: 42 km between Al Aaiun and Smara, 21 km between Awsard and Smara, 10 km in Smara and 5 km in Smara, in addition to a race for children.
