Algiers, 22 October 2022 (SPS) - The United Nations should opt for a new approach to the resolution of the conflict in Western Sahara that must be in line with the new requirements, said the member of the National Secretariat of the Polisario Front, in charge of Europe and the European Union (EU), Oubi Bouchraya Bachir.
"The time has come for the United Nations to find a new formula in line with current requirements", recalling that the Sahrawis have always been committed to facilitating the mission of the United Nations, Mr. Oubi Bouchraya to APS, Wednesday evening in Algiers, at the end of the preparatory work of the 46th conference of the European Coordination for Support and Solidarity with the Sahrawi People (EUCOCO), scheduled to take place in Berlin on December 2 and 3.
"The UN has appointed an experienced diplomat in the person of Staffan de Mistura as personal envoy of the SG, to revive the process, but the resolution of the conflict in Western Sahara does not depend on him, but rather on the Security Council.
"The failure of the Council to adapt its approach encourages the Moroccan occupier to continue its headlong rush and some countries of the European Union (EU) friends of Morocco to try to circumvent the decision of the European Court of Justice which was clear," he regretted.
The Saharawi official indicated, moreover, that the conflict in Western Sahara is "now at a historic turning point and the year 2023 will be decisive for the future of the liberation struggle of the Saharawi people".
