Door for peace remains open, while adhering to legitimate defence of our people's right to self-determination and independence

Shaheed Al Hafed, 22 October 2022 (SPS) - Member of the National Secretariat of the Polisario Front, representative to the United Nations and coordinator with MINURSO, Sidi Mohamed Omar, has affirmed that the door to peace remains open while the Sahrawi side adheres to defending the legitimate rights of the Sahrawi people to self-determination and independence.
Sidi Mohamed Omar, said in an interview with the newspaper "Essahra Al-Hura" that the Polisario Front keeps the door open for international peace efforts to push for a solution, but at the same time it asserts its adherence to its right to use all legitimate means to snatch the right of the Sahrawi people to self-determination and independence.
On the Security Council resolution on the extension of the mandate of MINURSO, Sidi Mohamed Omar made it clear that, despite what the Security Council would decide in its next resolution, the Sahrawi people would remain strong in their unity in order to defend their inalienable right to self-determination and independence and to realize their legitimate national aspirations to extend sovereignty over the entire Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic.
The representative of the Polisario Front to the United Nations and Coordinator with MINURSO added that the Personal Envoy of the Secretary-General of the United Nations for Western Sahara, Mr. Staffan de Mistura, visited the region at the beginning of last month, including the Sahrawi side, during which he met with the Sahrawi leadership, including the official meeting he had with President of the Republic, Secretary-Generalof the Polisario Front, Mr. Brahim Ghali.
The Sahrawi party affirmed to the UN envoy that the Polisario Front remains firmly committed to its right to use all legitimate means, including armed struggle, to defend the sacred and non-negotiable rights of the Sahrawi people to freedom and independence. The Polisario Front also leaves the door to a peaceful solution open, provided that this solution is based on enabling the Sahrawi people to exercise their inalienable right to self-determination and independence in accordance with the measures adopted by the United Nations regarding decolonization.
In that context, the Sahrawi party also affirmed its readiness to cooperate with the efforts of the United Nations and the African Union to achieve a peaceful and lasting solution in accordance with the principles of international legitimacy and the Constitutive Act of the African Union.
