London, 16 July 2022 (SPS) - The United Kingdom has reiterated its position on the question of Western Sahara in favor of a lasting solution on the basis of guaranteeing the right of self-determination for the people of Western Sahara.
According to a written reply from the Minister of State at the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, Graham Stuart, in response to a question from a Conservative MP, the Minister indicated that the Government had taken note of the proposals put forward by the parties to the conflict to the UN Secretary-General in 2007.
In this regard, the Minister affirmed that London strongly supports the work of Staffan de Mistura as the Personal Envoy of the United Nations Secretary-General for Western Sahara and encourages the parties to make the most of the mediation that he is leading.
The Minister concluded by reaffirming the need to continue the political process towards a just and lasting political solution that will provide for the right of self-determination for the people of Western Sahara. (SPS)
