Havana, 3 April 2022 (SPS) - The Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples expressed its firm rejection for the unilateral Spanish position expressed by the Prime Minister, Pedro Sanchez, regarding the conflict in Western Sahara, which ignores the right of the Saharawi people to self-determination and independence.
In a statement by its president, Fernando Gonzalez, after being received by the Sahrawi ambassador to Cuba, Omar Bolsan, at the headquarters of the embassy in Havana, the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples expressed its firm rejection of this decision because it "disregards the interests and rights of the Sahrawi people".
Fernando Gonzalez, on this occasion, reaffirmed the constant position of the Institute in favor of the Saharawi people and its legitimate right to self-determination, in accordance with the principles of the Charter of the United Nations, International Law and relevant UN resolutions.
He also stressed the position of the Institute in favor of a "negotiated political solution, fair, sustainable, mutually acceptable to both parties to the conflict (Polisario Front and Morocco) and which guarantees the Sahrawi people its legitimate right to self-determination.
He also stressed the need for the international community to commit to the implementation of all UN resolutions on the conflict in Western Sahara.
