Shahid El-Hafed, 28 February 2022 (SPS) - President of the Republic, Secretary General of the Polisario Front, Brahim Ghali, has reminded the United Nations of its responsibility to protect the unarmed Sahrawi civilians living in an armed conflict zone and to speed up the completion of the decolonization process of Africa’s last colony.
In a message on the occasion of the 46th anniversary of the proclamation of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR), celebrated on Sunday, Ghali affirmed that “the Sahrawi people aren’t asking for the impossible and don’t set any conditions, they were under duress to resume the armed struggle and require only the implementation of justice, in accordance with the UN charter and resolutions and the constitutive act of the African Union.”
In this regard, he reminded the “United Nations of its responsibility to protect the unarmed Sahrawi civilians living in an armed conflict zone and to quickly speed up the decolonization process of Africa’s last colony.”
“The indifference and the slackening hindering law enforcement in the United Nations, and particularly within the Security Council, and caused notably by France, in order to protect the Moroccan occupier in its flagrant and shameless breaking of the international law in Western Sahara, will inevitably lead to the persistence and hegemony of the Moroccan side, even the escalation in the colonial, hostile and provocative practices,” underlined the President of the Republic.
“The United Nations has just managed the crisis instead of resolving it, and it marginalized the MINURSO mission, encouraging the Moroccan occupation state to torpedo the cease-fire agreement, and thereby the outbreak of the military clashes,” underlined President Ghali.
“AU is called, as an associate authority of the United Nations and directly concerned by the conflict opposing two of its members, to act urgently,” stressed Ghali, reiterating “his willing to cooperate with the Pan-African organization to implement the decisions of the Summit “Silencing the Guns” and that of the peace and security Council in order to reach a fair, urgent and lasting solution to the conflict between the Sahrawi Republic and the Moroccan Kingdom, a neighboring country, in compliance with the principles of AU’s constitutive act.”
