Algiers, 28 November 2020 (SPS) - Ambassador of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR) in Algeria, Abdelkader Taleb Omar, affirmed on Wednesday that "the Moroccan expansion hindered the project of the Maghreb Arab Union (AMU) and not the Sahrawi cause as claimed by the Moroccan regime," adding that the Sahrawi Republic’s annexation will be a destructive factor in the region and in Africa as a whole.
Speaking at the official announcement of the National Association of Algerian Journalists in solidarity with the struggle of the Sahrawi people for independence, Taleb said that "the founding charter of the African Union (AU) provides for the respect of borders inherited after independence being it a factor of stability."
"The AU was the first to understand the issue by recognizing the Sahrawi state and its membership, in the face of the manipulation of Morocco whose expansive policy threatens the entire region," he said, adding that "the SADR is a factor of stability in the region and any attempt at annexation would be a factor of destruction."
The Sahrawi people, who are hardly adepts of war, will never give up the armed struggle until they regain their independence "whatever the maneuvers of Morocco who violated the ceasefire agreement.
"The Moroccan regime tends to return to the period before November 13 "to impose the blockage and stagnation and thus make the peace plan another one of renunciation," he concluded. (SPS)
