New York (United States), Nov 25TH, 2020 (SPS) - The United Nations Security Council accepted as an official document the statement of South Africa President and the rotating President of the African Union, Mr. Cyril Ramaphosa, made after Morocco's violation of the ceasefire in the El Garguerat area, southwest Western Sahara, at the request of the Representative of South Africa to the United Nations, Jerry Matthews Matjila.
In this regard, the President of the Security Council affirmed that “the copy of the letter issued on November 20, 2020 and its annexes sent by the representative of South Africa to the President of the Security Council will be registered under the code S / 2020 / 1132.21 ”.
The letter contains the position expressed by the President of the African Union, Mr. Cyril Ramaphosa, after learning of the growing tensions between the Sahrawi Republic and Morocco due to the situation in the El Garguerat buffer zone, in Western Sahara, by which he asked the two countries to ease tensions, return to negotiations and respect the Settlement Plan that establishes the ceasefire and the organization of a referendum for the Saharawi people to exercise their right to self-determination.
