Bir Lehlu, Nov, 05 2019 (SPS) - The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic, Mohamed Salem Uld Salek, said last Sunday that the United Nations Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara (MINURSO) "It must enjoy all its powers, stating that" the Frente POLISARIO will not tolerate any attempt to change its main mission, which is to hold a referendum on self-determination, "the Ministry said in a statement released.
In the statement, following the adoption by the UN Security Council of resolution 2494, the head of the Saharawi diplomacy reiterated that "the commitment to respect the ceasefire is subject to the commitment to hold a referendum on self-determination, in the sense that together they constitute the agreement that led to the establishment of MINURSO as an implementation mechanism, "the minister recalled.
"There are red lines marked and fixed by the blood of our martyrs, and whoever dares to transfer them will have to face the Saharawi people," he warned, noting that the attempt to use the authority of the Security Council to nullify the decisions of international legality in Western Sahara, "is a desperate attempt," he stressed.
For the Saharawi Foreign Minister, "the obvious complicity with the illegal Moroccan occupation in the Security Council, particularly France, which has been constantly holding back the efforts of the UN for three decades, has reached its paroxysm with recent attempts to change the nature of the MINURSO mission through the introduction of new formulations and terminologies totally contrary to the letter and spirit of the two-party settlement plan, the resolutions of the General Assembly and the Security Council, as well as the decisions of the African Union and the International Court of Justice, "said Salek.
"We affirm clearly and responsibly that neither France, nor Morocco, nor any other party can confiscate the right of our people to self-determination and independence," he said.
Recalling that the adherence of the international community to the right of the Saharawi people to self-determination and independence and their rejection of all Moroccan sovereignty over Western Sahara, is further proof that "the era of colonialism, expansionist chimeras and dominance absolute, by force, in neighboring territories, is over. "
Finally, Uld Salek also reiterated that the exercise by the Saharawi people of their inalienable right to self-determination and independence "is a solution of realistic and consensual commitment, adopted by both parties and unanimously supported at the level of the United Nations and the African Union.
