Yokohama (Japan) 26 August 2019 (SPS)- The seventh African Union-Japan Partnership Summit (TICAD) kicked off today in Yokohama, Japan, at the level of Senior Officials, to be followed tomorrow by a meeting of Foreign Affairs Ministers, before the holding of the Summit that will be attended by the President of the Sahrawi Republic, Brahim Ghali.
The Senior Officials meeting was attended by the Sahrawi Ambassador to Ethiopia and Permanent Representative to the African Union, Mr. Lamine Baali, with high officials representing African countries and Japan, along with a number of representatives of international organizations involved in organizing the meeting, especially from the United Nations and the World Bank.
As for the expected Ministerial Meeting, the Saharawi delegation will be led by Mr. Mohamed Salem Uld Salk, Minister of Foreign Affairs on Tuesday. This meeting will ratify the resolutions to be presented at the summit of heads of state and government that will take place on the 28th and 29th August with the participation of the Saharawi President and his delegation as well as the heads of states and governments of the African Union and the Japanese Prime Minister.
The Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD) is an international conference led by the Japanese government and co-sponsored by the United Nations, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the African Union Commission (AUC) and the World Bank.
The attendance to this conference includes African countries, Japan, regional and international organizations, international financial institutions from the public and private sectors, civil society organizations and hundreds of journalists and personalities.
Countries from the European Union, the Organization of Asian States, the United States of America, Russia, China, Korea, India and Brazil also attend the Summit as observers.
The Conference is expected to endorse a strategy for cooperation in the field of economic development and an implementation plan that each party still wishes to improve in line with its own vision and agenda.
